Learn how to install and set up Yark on your Mac

Installation

  1. Download Yark from the download page
  2. Open the .dmg file and drag Yark to your Applications folder
  3. Launch Yark from your Applications folder

System Requirements

  • macOS 12.0 (Monterey) or later
  • Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3) or Intel Mac
  • At least 4GB of RAM (8GB recommended for local models)

First Launch

When you first launch Yark, you'll need to:

  1. Grant Microphone Access - Yark needs access to your microphone to transcribe speech
  2. Grant Accessibility Access - Required for the overlay and keyboard shortcuts
  3. Create an Account - Sign up for a Yark account to sync your settings

Quick Start

  1. Press the global hotkey (default: ⌥ Space) to start recording
  2. Speak clearly into your microphone
  3. Press the hotkey again to stop and transcribe
  4. The transcribed text will be inserted at your cursor position
